Fisherman’s Retreat Edition 10 Lochranza, Yalumba Red Wine Cask (Twin Pack)

THE FISHERMAN’S RETREAT SINGLE CASK LIMITED EDITION 10 TASTING NOTES:

APPEARANCE: A beautiful amber hew for a whisky of only nine years, flashes of barley straw and endless tears of natural oils can be seen as you roll the spirit around the glass. Just looking at this dram gives you a glimpse that something unique lies ahead!

NOSE: Sweet raisins, honeycomb and vanilla shine through on this complex and intriguing spirit, something altogether different from other Arran distillations, hints of citrus with dark berry notes follow subtly with oak intensifying in the background.

PALATE: Amber nectar comes to mind, what a seriously flavoursome Malt! Heather honey, vanilla and toasted oak are at the forefront, wild berries and hints of cinnamon follow with a constant sweetness enduring throughout.

NOTE: Edition 10 is one of our finest examples so far of spirit aged solely in former wine barrels. The origins of the wine barrel used for this distillation from Lochranza distillery has come from the Yalumba Winery in the Barossa Valley, South Australia. This barrel made from American oak at Yalumba’s very own cooperage has been home to some of Yalumba’s finest red wines over a 4-year period before eventually finishing its life at the winery maturing fortified Muscat for several more years.

This combination of cask and spirit has indeed worked some magic that has matured a fantastic Lochranza spirit into a truly unique and fantastic single malt whisky.
