Fisherman’s Retreat Edition No.5 Port Charlotte Haut-Brion Cask
A true Islay malt with a beautiful smokey essence, typical of a Port Charlotte distillation, which is unfortunately no longer with us. The long-forgotten recipe was brought back to life thanks to the Bruichladdich distillery, at the hands of master distiller Jim McEwan.
Aromas A smokey but subtle hit initially, with other flavours becoming apparent, vanilla, orange and a hint of sweet caramel, oak is constant throughout.
Palate A beautiful warming dram, hold in your mouth and feel the gentle heat take over your senses. Then the flavours come rushing through, sweet citrus notes, oak is always in the mix, a slight saltiness coming through from the shores of Lochindaal.
A real winter warmer, ideal for the flask on a winter warmer, or a goose shoot!! Or you can just pour a dram and enjoy in front of a roaring log fire at home!!! Whichever you choose this whisky will be a great companion.
Fisherman’s Retreat Edition No.6 Bruichladdich Rivesaltes French Wine Cask
Our Edition 6 is a 12 year old single cask Bruichladdich, which has spent its life in a Rivesaltes French wine cask on the Isle of Islay. These bottles were hand filled by whisky legend Jim McEwan and owner of the Fisherman s Retreat Hervey Magnall Snr. With only 249 bottles produced this is a very unique and limited single malt, what further adds to its uniqueness is that the tasting notes where also written by Jim McEwan who describes its taste as…
At 50.4% the addition of a little spring water allows the spirit to reveal some beautiful aromas. Initially, you are welcomed by the fruitiness of pomegranate & plump ripe grapes with floral hints of honeysuckle & gorse in bloom, followed by an updraft of heather and moorland flowers with coastal drift of Atlantic breezes.
Colour Stunning Medium Amber/ Burnished copper.
Body Medium with a fresh vibrant Hebridean overture clearly highlighting the quality of the cask & the spirit.
Fisherman’s Retreat Edition No.7 Bruichladdich Yalumba Octavius Cask
Distilled – 24th August 2011
Bottled – September 2019
Colour – Burnt Orange
Body – Rich and succulent, the cask and the spirit have worked in
harmony to create a truly unique dram.
Nose – Flavours of mellow oak, marzipan, melon balls, cranberry &
pomegranate all held together in a beautiful Hebridean overture of
vanilla & wild honey and encapsulated in a soft marine aroma with
floral hints of heather in bloom. Coastal wild flower notes drift by on
a marine Hebridean breeze. It’s Islay in its purest form, no smoke &
iodine to fog the palate, it’s so simple, it’s so pure. Hints of
succulent ripe grapes lead to be followed by the crispy sweet malt
extract and all the while a marine overture brings balance and a
taste of why a pure Islay without the overcoat of peat smoke can
match any spirit in the world. Great example of people, place and
pride in total harmony.
Palate – Sweet oak reveals itself initially only to be overlapped with
notes of citrus and hints of wild flowers, gently complimented by
fresh berries. At 50.4% this dram tantalises every part of the pallet
all the way to the end.
