Pork

Our pigs are British Saddlebacks - originating from the herd of our friend, Mr. Jimmy Appleton, who has the Rainbarrow herd of British Saddlebacks.

The Rainbarrow herd consists of champion sows and boars, which have won time and again at many of the large shows, due to a quality breeding and rearing program.

Piglets are reared on their mother's milk until they are at least 10-12 weeks old (usually about the time she is getting fed up of them biting her!).

During the warmer months the piglets are kept outside and are able to forage for roots and vegetables. In the colder months the pigs are reared inside on straw beds and fed with vegetables and an additive free pig meal.

The hams and gammons from the pigs are cured the traditional way (without additives, which are present in many commercially produced hams today).
