ARDBEG DOUBLE BARREL
The Fisherman's Retreat has just received the latest edition from Ardbeg distillery - the 'Double Barrel' the two bottles of whisky are from single casks distilled in 1974 and bottled in 2007, they are presented in a specially designed Purdey shotgun case along with eight Hamilton and Inches sterling silver cups.
The Ardbeg double barrel will be on display along with our already impressive collection of Ardbeg single malt whiskies.
There are only 250 pieces worldwide, and we have managed to secure a number of these fine examples of very old Ardbeg which are available for sale at a cost of £6000 each, any interested parties should contact the Fishermans Retreat
for more information.

Whisky Tasting
The Fisherman's Retreat held a private whisky tasting on Thursday 6th of March for Woodcocks solicitors who organized the event in order to raise money for Rossendale hospice. The evening was hosted by Hervey Magnall snr and Ken Leach who took guests on a taste tour through six whiskies which included the new Glenmorangie ten year old and Laphroaig from the beautiful isle of Islay followed by a Haggis neaps and tatties supper.
Two bottles of whisky were auctioned one of which was our very own 'Susan's share' a limited edition bottling of only fifty bottles which made a staggering £1000 in the auction.
Together with the raffle and auction the evening raised in excess of £3000 which is a fantastic sum of money going to a very worthy cause.
We would like to thank Woodcocks solicitors for making the Fisherman's Retreat their venue of choice.
The Fisherman's Retreat Own Whisky Now Available
We have now released our own single malt whisky, which is a delightful 12 year old 1995 Lochranza. The whisky was distilled on the Isle of Arran 17.10.95 and enhanced at Bruichladdich Distillery in Haut Brion red wine casks. It is a limited release of 200 bottles and is available to buy from the Fisherman's Retreat at a price of £65.
Show champions bought by the Fisherman's
Gisburn auction mart held its annual Christmas show and sale of prime beef cattle on Thursday the 6th of December. The quality of the cattle shown was a real a credit to farmers who have gone through a very difficult year with the restrictions caused by the foot and mouth outbreak and a summer that didn't happen.
Hervey Magnall snr was at the auction and purchased the champion and reserve champion which were then taken straight to slaughter, the carcasses will be left to dry age in the dedicated meat fridge at the Fisherman's Retreat for eight to twelve weeks (as with all our beef) and then served to our customers who appreciate real good food done the traditional way, NOT RUSHED!
Bruichladdich Whisky Tasting
The November whisky tasting at the Fisherman's Retreat hosted by Jim McEwan (master distiller at Bruichladdich distillery) was a tremendous success.
The whiskies tasted were from the Bruichladdich range, and were all very well received, especially a world first tasting of a quadruple distilled whisky which was only 12 months old, but initially mistaken by most for a 12 year old
Also Jim auctioned a one off bottle in aid of Bury hospice that reached an amazing one thousand two hundred pounds, the bottle is going to be filled from very old casks of Bruichladdich.
We would like to thank Jim very much for his time and effort and providing us with a fantastic evening never to be forgotton!
