  • Burns Night

On Friday 23rd January from 7.00pm we invite you to join us and celebrate the life of Robert Burns, Scotland’s most famous poet.

Your evening will begin with the sounds of bag pipes as the haggis is piped in, followed by the famous Robert Burns poem ‘Address to a haggis’ before enjoying a 3 course meal, prepared with a Scottish theme in mind.

As always we will have a special guest from one of Scotland’s distilleries who will host a special whisky tasting session, confirmation on which distillery will be announced later in the year.

You will also have the chance of winning some fantastic ‘whisky themed’ raffle prizes in aid of Bury hospice.

Our Pipe Band will then fill the room with some fantastic sounds; this evening promises to be both entertaining and intoxicating. However, as always we do recommend you to drink responsibly!

This is a unique night this is not to be missed.

  • Bury Hospice

At The Fisherman’s Retreat, with your help we have raised a massive £3825.00 for Bury Hospice!

Bury Hospice has always been a charity very close to the hearts of not only the Magnalls; owners of the Fisherman’s Retreat, but also our staff and customers.

This amazing amount of money has been raised during our Single Malt Whisky tasting evenings which are held once a month throughout the winter season.

The majority of the prizes raffled were provided from our large stock of select wines and limited edition Whiskies. A huge thank you must also go to our suppliers who have been extremely kind in donating many unique prizes such as Whisky, beer, hampers, as well as mini breaks to Austria and Northumberland.

  • Our 16 Year Old Single Malt - Limited Edition

Hervey Magnall Snr owner of The Fisherman’s has just arrived back from a 500 mile round trip to The Isle of Arran.

The Journey was in aid of collecting our 16 year old single malt, this whisky was distilled on the 22nd May 1997 and placed in a ex-sherry hogs head where it has lay undisturbed, slowly maturing in the warehouse at Lochranza until this week.
With a ABV of 53.8% and notes of Apple, ripe Banana, Marzipan, Pear drops, and Crème Brulee this is a wonderful example of an Arran single malt.

This will be bottled at cask strength just in time for our Whisky Festival on Saturday 14th September, and will also be available to try by the dram and buy from our Whisky shop.

In the same journey 4 ex-Yalumba wine casks were dropped off at Arran distillery to be filled with new make spirit which will slowly mature for the next 10 years – so not too long to wait!

Available to purchase at £50.00 per bottle.

  • Limited Edition Bruichladdich

In 2007 the whisky was distilled at Bruichladdich Distillery on the Isle of Islay and filled into an ex buffalo trace bourbon cask.

After resting in Bruichladdich warehouse on the shores of Loch Indaal for five years the decision was made in December 2012 to transport the cask to our Lancashire home ‘The Fisherman’s Retreat’ for a little experiment. Once safely back we transferred the whisky into an ex fortified wine cask, from our friends at Yalumba winery in the Borossa Valley, South Australia.

The cask rested at The Fisherman’s Retreat for a further 8 months, as anticipated the warmth of its new home greatly accelerated the maturation of the whisky and in turn the Yalumba cask completely transformed the whisky!
After regular tasting of the spirit it was decided to bottle our special edition whisky in September 2013, just in time for our annual whisky festival.

Although Bruichladdich at heart, it now has a great Aussie influence!

Available to purchase at £50.00 per bottle.
