The Fisherman’s Retreat

We are situated in acres of beautiful countryside in the Rossendale valley overlooking the town of Ramsbottom and yet, only twenty minutes from the centre of Manchester.

A family owned, multi-award winning bar, restaurant and wedding venue set in the Lancashire countryside serving freshly prepared, locally sourced produce, a truly stunning range of Scottish single malt whiskies, speciality real ales in oak casks and wines and champagnes to suit any occasion.

To avoid disappointment, reservations are essential.

  • Bury Hospice

    At The Fisherman’s Retreat, with your help we have raised a massive £3825.00 for Bury Hospice!

    Bury Hospice has always been a charity very close to the hearts of not only the Magnalls; owners of the Fisherman’s Retreat, but also our staff and customers.

    This amazing amount of money has been raised during our Single Malt Whisky tasting evenings which are held once a month throughout the winter season.

    The majority of the prizes raffled were provided from our large stock of select wines and limited edition Whiskies. A huge thank you must also go to our suppliers who have been extremely kind in donating many unique prizes such as Whisky, beer, hampers, as well as mini breaks to Austria and Northumberland.

  • Our 16 Year Old Single Malt - Limited Edition

    Hervey Magnall Snr owner of The Fisherman’s has just arrived back from a 500 mile round trip to The Isle of Arran.

    The Journey was in aid of collecting our 16 year old single malt, this whisky was distilled on the 22nd May 1997 and placed in a ex-sherry hogs head where it has lay undisturbed, slowly maturing in the warehouse at Lochranza until this week.
    With a ABV of 53.8% and notes of Apple, ripe Banana, Marzipan, Pear drops, and Crème Brulee this is a wonderful example of an Arran single malt.

    This will be bottled at cask strength just in time for our Whisky Festival on Saturday 14th September, and will also be available to try by the dram and buy from our Whisky shop.

    In the same journey 4 ex-Yalumba wine casks were dropped off at Arran distillery to be filled with new make spirit which will slowly mature for the next 10 years – so not too long to wait!

  • Limited Edition Bruichladdich

    In 2007 the whisky was distilled at Bruichladdich Distillery on the Isle of Islay and filled into an ex buffalo trace bourbon cask.

    After resting in Bruichladdich warehouse on the shores of Loch Indaal for five years the decision was made in December 2012 to transport the cask to our Lancashire home ‘The Fisherman’s Retreat’ for a little experiment. Once safely back we transferred the whisky into an ex fortified wine cask, from our friends at Yalumba winery in the Borossa Valley, South Australia.

    The cask rested at The Fisherman’s Retreat for a further 8 months, as anticipated the warmth of its new home greatly accelerated the maturation of the whisky and in turn the Yalumba cask completely transformed the whisky!
    After regular tasting of the spirit it was decided to bottle our special edition whisky in September 2013, just in time for our annual whisky festival.

    Although Bruichladdich at heart, it now has a great Aussie influence!

    We are pleased to announce the date of our next wedding open evening, which will be held on Thursday 26th January from 5.00pm.

    Our wedding open evening is the perfect opportunity to experience firsthand everything that makes The Fisherman’s Retreat so special. Not only can we offer you remarkable views, acres of private grounds and a choice of two stunning rooms but the promise of quality food which is locally sourced and freshly prepared by our team of creative and talented chefs.

    Our open evening will allow you to view our grounds and discover the unique photo opportunities they provide. You will be treated to tasters of canapes that feature in our wedding brochure, along with the opportunity to sample some of our handpicked sparkling wines. We will showcase the different styles of rooms we have available to accommodate your ceremony, wedding breakfast and evening reception.

    You will also get a chance to meet some of our trusted suppliers and see samples of their work.

    Whether your wish is simplistic and classic or no expense spared, we will be able to accommodate your dream day. If you cannot find what you are looking for within our brochure, explain to us your dream day and we will tailor a package to suit your exact needs.

  • Burns' Night Dinner

    On Friday 27th January from 7.00pm we invite you to join us and celebrate the life of Robert Burns, Scotland’s most famous poet.

    Upon arrival you will be greeted with a dram of whisky, selection of Scottish themed canapés, shortly after your arrival you will hear the unmistakable sounds of bag pipes, heralding the entrance of the haggis.

    We will start the evening with The Selkirk grace, followed by the famous Robert Burn’s poem ‘Address to a haggis’.

    Whilst enjoying your Scottish themed 3 course meal you will be entertained once again by The Northenden Pipe Band.

    Shortly after we will present the immortal memory address of Robert Burns, then the evening will conclude with a tasting of two single malt whiskies.

    You will also have the chance of winning some fantastic ‘whisky themed’ raffle prizes in aid of Bury hospice.

    The evening promises to be both entertaining and intoxicating. However, as always we do recommend you to drink responsibly!

    This is a unique night that is not to be missed.

  • Valentine's Day Dinner

    Treat someone special for Valentine’s Day 2017 and join us at The Fisherman’s Retreat for a romantic candle lit evening on Saturday 11th February.

    You will both be welcomed with a chilled glass of Sparkling Rose before enjoying your three course meal, specially created by our Head Chef.

    £50 per person
    £20 per person deposit is required on booking
